ABOUT

THE JOURNEY

Gabriel River Clark is a young British Artist who turns individual wooden bowls in his workshop on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbrian Hills.

His talents were first discovered when a bowl he carved raised over £250,000 for Save the Children’s Ukraine Appeal in the spring of 2022. His efforts generated huge social media interest from around the world, with JK Rowling, Stephen Fry, Nick Offerman and Cher all expressing personal support, whilst global press attention led to numerous articles and TV interviews.

THE CRAFT

Entirely self-taught, Gabriel’s passion for working with his hands was clear even at 4 years old when he began crafting gifts with balsa wood, but it was only when he got his first lathe at 10yrs that he able to more fully develop his deep love of wood.

Working intuitively, and responding to the timber itself, perfection is not his goal. Instead each piece is a journey of discovery, shaped by the passions, determination and the creative fervour of a young mind - an artist at the very start of his journey.

“What I love about wood is that each piece is unique.
I don’t know what I’m going to make until it’s finished.”

— Gabriel Clark

THE FUTURE

As Gabriel continues to hone his craft and skills, his focus is now to further develop his feel for design - his goal to evolve a unique language such that each work is instantly recognisable as one of his own.

He is also keen to use his recognition to carry on fundraising, and he is delighted to be an official Ambassador for Save the Children.

Finally, his hope is that his passions, and the attention that it has drawn, might encourage others recognise the value and importance of creativity, especially for children.
